Alan Wong grew up in Wahiawa, Oahu. He was born to a Japanese mother and a half-Hawaiian and half-Chinese father. He received his gastronomic arts education at Kapiolani Community College. Wong got his start at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. He studied under Chef Andre Soltner at Lutèce in New York for three years. Alan made a name for himself as a chef after opening two award-winning restaurants, “the Pineapple Room,” in different locations in 1995 and 1999.
