Alyshia Tkacs, a former Rhode Island cheerleading instructor, was arrested for child abuse a decade ago, according to authorities. The victim was between the ages of 12 and 14 at the time. The abuse is claimed to have started in 2012 and continued for two years. East Rhode Island Police said in a statement that when the victim, now an adult, testified, the 33-year-old was charged with five charges of first-degree child molestation and two instances of second-degree child molestation. When she told the authorities about her trauma, the victim reported that Tkacs would assault her “nearly every day.” Police initiated an inquiry into the situation soon after the announcement.

Lt. Michael Rapoza said regarding the case:

“During the two-year period, the victim reported virtually daily sexual attacks in East Providence and Barrington, R.I.”

Tkacs was apprehended at her Cranston home after almost a month of inquiry. Authorities stated that the accused would not have been imprisoned if the victim had not decided to come forward.

“She had a kid that age,” many say in response to Alyshia Tkacs’ crime.

Veronica Seavey, who knew Tkacs from nursing school, said the claims surprised her. In an interview with WJAR, Seavey stated:

“It simply didn’t seem like something she would do, especially because she had a kid that age.”

At the Superior Cheer All Stars gym in East Providence, Alyshia Tkacs led a competitive cheerleading club. The plant was closed in 2018. However, the gym where the event occurred said they were unaware of the mistreatment.

Dawn Castonguay, the owner of the gym, stated in a statement:

“I never suspected molestation since they were still hanging around after they both left the gym.”

Tkacs was employed at Care New England Health System in Rhode Island at the time of her arrest. The hospital announced in a statement to WPRI-TV:

“Prior to employment, Care New England ran background checks, which came out clean. She has been suspended indefinitely without pay and is not permitted to enter our campus. We take the care and safety of our community extremely seriously, so when we were told, we acted swiftly.”
