Andy Richter was born in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan on October 28, 1966, to Glenda Swanson and Laurence R. Richter. His parents had divorced when he was four years old because his father had come out as gay. Andy grew up in the Yorkville neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Yorkville High School in 1984.

Career

In 1980, Andy enrolled as a film major at the prestigious Columbia College Chicago, where he spent most of his time learning comedy, trying his hand at acting, and writing and starring in several student films.

In 1988, he worked as an assistant production assistant in Chicago. A year later, he decided to take action on a more serious level and enrolled in Chicago’s Improv Olympic.

He was also chosen as a writer for the Jonathan Brandmeier show, which unfortunately had to be canceled for a time.

Andy Richter began his career as a writer on the popular show “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” in 1993. He was quickly promoted as Conan’s sidekick on the show. However, after seven long years on the show, Andy had finally left to pursue greater success in life.

Andy had surprised everyone with his frequent guest appearances with Conan as an announcer on “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” since 2009. Andy continued to work with Conan for several other roles, including sidekicks, as a writer, announcer, and even as a participant in comedy episodes, until the following year.
