William Franklin Graham, Jr. KBE, better known as “Billy Graham,” was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 7, 1918. He was born in the United States to William Franking Graham Sr. and Morrow Graham. He was the eldest of four children who grew up in Charlotte near a family dairy farm.

Billy Graham attended Sharon High School and, after graduation, enrolled at Bob Jones College in Cleveland for further studies. Billy did not finish his education and dropped out after a few months. He then attended Florida Bible Institute, where he earned a Bachelor of Theology degree.

At the age of sixteen, Billy Graham decided to give his life to Christ after attending a series of revival meetings in Charlotte led by evangelist Mordecai Fowler Ham. In Silver Lake, he was baptized by the pastor of the church. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in the St. John’s River Association later on. Soon after, he enrolled at Wheaton College in Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology.

Career

Billy became pastor of the United Gospel Tabernacle and had other preaching engagements while attending college. He then served as the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois, for a short time. Following that, he relocated to Minnesota and became president of Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis.

Billy Graham’s popularity grew across the country, and soon a well-known religious organization invited him to preach at their Los Angeles revival. It was truly magical, and a large crowd gathered to witness the event. The event was supposed to last a few days, but the growing number of attendees compelled the organizers to extend it for another five weeks. Billy had a very successful event.
