Spears went to Instagram on July 16 to upload a video of herself singing an acoustic rendition of the popular song, a dramatic difference from the original 1998 release. The video was filmed on her phone as she was doing laundry, according to the description on her post:

“This is me doing washing and sorting clothing yesterday… I haven’t shared my voice in a very long time… maybe too long… now here I am at home, playing a different version of “Baby.”

Fans of the artist were ecstatic with the surprise video and went to Twitter to show their appreciation for the new, “revamped” version, with some even questioning when the tune will be available on vinyl.

Spears was just 17 years old when the song was filmed when it was released in 1998. Martin Max’s lyrics are written from the viewpoint of a young girl whose lover has abandoned her. Britney is portrayed as a schoolgirl in the accompanying music video, which depicts her in uniform. Despite being released on YouTube more than a decade later, the legendary singer has had over 734 million views. Britney had back-to-back successes after Baby One More Time, solidifying her place as one of the greatest American vocalists of all time.
