Colin Andrew Mochrie was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, on November 30, 1957. His father was a maintenance executive for an airline. He was transferred to French in 1964 and then back to British Columbia after five years. Colin graduated from Killarney Secondary School with a degree in biology.

He also played the undertaker in a skit play, which helped him decide on a career path. Colin attended Studio 58 School in Vancouver for four years after graduating and learned the art of improvisational comedy.

Colin Mochrie began his career in 1980, following his graduation from Studio 58. He began working for the groups by performing small acts, and after participating in TheatreSports League, it became his passion and a full-time job. In a comedy scene, he meets a friend from New Zealand, and they later begin working together for TheatreSports.
