Martin and his mother decided to reconcile with his father after he left the family, and this journey began in 1998. Martin rented a new, furnished house to his father, and they arranged for his check-ups and eventual admission to a rehabilitation center.

He stayed in the facility for six months and it was not in vain because he was able to stay sober and resume his normal life. However, cancer caught up with him and he fought on until he succumbed in June 2009 at 58 years.

The good news is that he left after the family had reached an agreement. Martin had a long time love relationship with Carolina Williams, with whom they tied the knot in 2010. The ceremony was held at Oheka Castle in Huntington, Long Island. The couple was blessed with their first child, a daughter named Ava in 2011.
