Daniel Arsham- The Artist Behind NBA All-Star’s Tiffany & Co. Basketball

Daniel Arsham

Tiffany & Co. is teaming up with Daniel Arsham to launch the Wilson basketball in time for the NBA All-Star weekend. The artist has previously collaborated with the company. The two will create a Tiffany blue Wilson basketball that will be textured explicitly with the artist’s distinctive crystal diamond pattern for the current edition.

The American artist reacted to the cooperation, saying:

“For decades, Tiffany & Co. has designed the Larry O’Brien trophy for the NBA.” The connection between basketball and Tiffany & Co. is obvious and well-established. As the creative director of the Cavs — my local team as a Clevelander — it’s an honor to be working with the organization and Tiffany & Co., especially with the All-Star game being held in Cleveland this year.”

Daniel went on to explain the design, saying:

“The visual elements of erosion and crystallization, together with Tiffany’s house characteristics, really represent the merger of my vision into this cooperation.” This is evolving with the inclusion of my studio logo, a personalized statement and style, and a more unique uniting of all three partners.”

The $575 limited-edition basketball is available at Tiffany’s Woodmere shop in Ohio.

Daniel Arsham

Who exactly is Daniel Arsham?

Daniel Arsham is a visual artist who was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Daniel attended Design and Architecture High School before continuing his study at The Cooper Union in New York City. He received the 37th Gelman Trust Fellowship Award in 2003. After leaving his alma institution, he returned to Miami and opened “The House,” an exhibition venue. The show was well-received, and Gallerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris thereafter represented Daniel.

Following that, Arsham was at the helm of numerous outstanding stage design projects. He landed a job working with choreographer and former Merce Cunningham dancer Jonah Bokaer. The Walker Museum has incorporated Arsham’s first stage design (which he produced for Cunningham) into its permanent collection. He worked at The New Museum, IVAM in Spain, The Hellenic Festival in Athens, Greece, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts, and the prestigious Festival de Avignon. Later that year, Arsham founded Snarkitecture with Alex Mustonen. The architectural collaboration collaborated with numerous fashion labels to produce a portfolio of utilitarian items.

Galerie Perrotin was the second to publish it in 2012.
