David Lynch was born on January 20, 1946, in New York City. David Keith Lynch is his given name. He was born in Missoula, Montana, United States. He is an American citizen. David was the son of Donald Walton Lynch and Edwina “Sunny” Lynch. He has two siblings: John, a brother, and Martha, a sister. On his father’s side, he is descended from Scottish, Irish, and English ancestors, while on his mother’s side, he is descended from Finnish and German ancestors. His family frequently relocated following the USDA’s assignment of his father. He was brought up as a Presbyterian. He is of white ethnic origin and was born under the sign of Aquarius.

In terms of education, he attended Hammond High School. From an early age, he was interested in painting and drawing. David Lynch was serious about pursuing a career in painting. He attended some artistic academies. To help support his family, he obtained a job as a printing engraver. In the late 1960s, he began shooting short films. In 1967, he directed his debut short movie, Six Men Getting Sick (Six Times). Later in life, he produced many short films before relocating to Los Angeles in 1971. He enrolled at the AFI Conservatory to study filmmaking. His debut feature-length film, Eraserhead, was a hit on the midnight cinema circuit. It was dubbed one of the 1970s’ most notable midnight films.

He directed The Elephant Man, a film based on Joseph Merrick’s true story. The film was a critical and economic triumph, earning eight Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Director and won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
