Dawn Staley and Lisa Boyer, Lesbians?

While Staley has never spoken out about her relationship status or partner, she has allowed her fans to speculate about her relationship and sexuality. Because of her unapologetic, outspoken personality, many of her fans suspect she is a lesbian. And the speculation has been going on for quite some time. “I think Dawn Staley is gay,” a Twitter user named Zaria wrote in 2014.

Then, in March 2021, another Twitter user assumed she was a lesbian, though she clarified that she didn’t know her true sexuality. “Dawn Staley a different type of old fine.. gay self.. ion even know if she was gay, but she looks like it,” she tweeted. Surprisingly, the lesbian assumptions did not emerge from anywhere. Staley has long been linked to Lisa Boyer, South Carolina’s assistant basketball coach. In a now-deleted tweet, the three-time Olympic gold medalist fueled dating rumors by referring to herself and Boyer as a married couple. She even thanked Boyer for giving up her career to supporting her dreams. Aside from the tweet, there is no other proof that Staley is married to Lisa Boyer. They haven’t confirmed their relationship or referred to each other as partners.

Unfortunately, Staley, the youngest of her siblings, lost her father to illness in 2006. Her mother, who insisted on her focusing on her education while playing basketball, was already suffering from Alzheimer’s disease at the time. Staley relocated to South Carolina to care for her mother. Her mother died in August 2017 at the age of 74, after thriving for years.

Pleaded Help for Sister’s Cancer

Staley requested that her fans send her best wishes for her sister’s early recovery from leukemia in May 2020. Tracey Staley Underwood, the head coach of the University of South Carolina, was diagnosed with leukemia, a type of blood cancer, according to the university’s head coach. She then asked her supporters to send cards and letters to Tracey in order to cheer her up.

Her sister recovered after the plea with the help of five chemotherapies and a bone marrow transplant in August 2020. Lawrence, their brother, donated the required stem cells as a 10/10 match for the donation.
