As a teen, she became a mother.

Saphire was born in Scottsdale and comes from a family of attorneys, pharmacists, business owners, and shop owners. Her father is a lawyer, and her mother is a therapist. She wanted to contribute to medicine as a professional doctor, so she embarked on the journey of becoming the family’s first medical doctor, only to find obstacles in her path.

She became pregnant during her senior year of high school. While many thought that having a young child would ruin her life, she found solace in having the freedom to make her own life decisions rather than being forced to have an unsafe abortion.

“The flood of emotions I felt upon learning of my pregnancy as I began my senior year of high school was dominated by fear and shame,” Saphire wrote for Fox News in May 2018.
She decided to have her first child after much deliberation. She gave birth to her son, Nick Pagoria, when she was 18 years old, just before graduating high school.

Saphire explained to the Independent Women’s Forum in September 2020 that her decision to have a son at such a young age was not motivated by any political or religious beliefs. She said her decision was “based on emotion and a sense of responsibility.”

Dr. Saphire went on to say that if the situation had occurred decades ago, she might have reluctantly had an unsafe abortion or hidden away from her pregnancy.
But, because that was not the case with her, she was grateful to be able to choose life for her son.

On the other hand, she continued to work toward her medical dream while raising a child. Her perseverance has paid off today.

Currently, she is married to Dr. Paul Saphier.

Dr. Saphire is now a married woman as well. Her husband is Dr. Paul Saphier, a neurosurgeon whom she met at the same medical conference in Arizona. Nicole was a medical student, and Paul was a fellow. They met at a bar, just like in Grey’s Anatomy’s medical drama.

Furthermore, Dr. Paul is a New Jersey native who earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where he graduated in the top one-third of his class. He completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Department of Neurosurgery.

Nicole is the mother of three sons because the Saphire couple has two sons. The five-person family lives together.
