Ed Helms was born on January 24, 1974, as the youngest child of John A. Helms and Pamela Ann Helms in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. His parents were navy veterans, insurance executives, and lawyers, and his mother was a school administrator. He also has two siblings, an older sister named Susan Carol Helms and a younger brother named John Paxton Helms. He is descended from English, Irish, German, Dutch, and French ancestors. Similarly, Ed is an American citizen. His zodiac sign is Aquarius, and he is 49 years old.

Helms underwent open-heart surgery at the age of 13 to correct a severe congenital heart defect known as supravalvular aortic and pulmonic stenosis. Helms’ surgery lasted nine hours, and he was kept in an intensive care unit for a week afterward. In terms of education, he attended Interlochen Center for the Arts as a child and graduated from The Westminster Schools in 1992, one year after The Office co-star Brian Baumgartner.
