Ezra Klein was born on May 9, 1984, to a Jewish family in Irvine, California, United States of America. His father, Abel Klein, is a mathematics professor at the University of California, Irvine who is originally from Brazil, and his mother is an artist. After graduating from University High School, he attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, before transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2005.

Career

Klein worked on Howard Dean’s Vermont primary campaign in 2003 and interned for the Washington Monthly in Washington, D.C. in 2004. He and Moulitsas were two of the first bloggers to report from a political meeting of the California State Democratic Party in 2003. On December 10, 2007, Klein moved his blog full-time to the American Prospect.

Klein joined Bloomberg View as a writer in May of 2011, in addition to his roles at The Washington Post and MSNBC. Klein announced in January 2014 that he would be leaving The Washington Post to launch a new media company with several other veteran journalists. Klein had initially “proposed the formation of an independent, explanatory journalism website—comprising more than three dozen staffers” with a yearly budget of more than US$10 million in order to avoid leaving The Washington Post.

Klein was the editor-in-chief of Vox before becoming editor-at-large, and she previously wrote for and edited The Washington Post’s Wonkblog. On MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, he frequently provides political reporting. Hardball with Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow. He previously worked as a Countdown analyst alongside Keith Olbermann.
