Fiona Apple was born on September 13, 1977, in New York, New York, to famous actor Brandon Maggart and singer Diane McAfee. She was raised by both her father and his parents. She studied piano and made her debut when she was seventeen years old for an album called “Tidal.” Her first step was a successful one, as she received a Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Rock.

Apple’s life was not without incident; at the age of 12, she was raped outside her apartment. This incident proved to be a major setback because she developed an eating disorder as a result of it, purposefully slimming her body to appear unattractive. She also began to experience panic attacks. All of this caused her to rush to Los Angeles, to her father’s house.
