Gerald Green was born in Houston, Texas, on January 26, 1986. He, too, is 38 years old. He was born to Brenda Green, a mother, and Gerald Green, a father. His father works as a professional firefighter. He has three siblings: two sisters, Terika Green and Delonya Green, and a brother, Garlon Green, who is also a professional basketball player overseas.

Gerald Green Education And Early Career

Gerald began playing basketball in his sophomore year of high school. He was a junior varsity player at J.Frank Doble High School. He was fired from the team due to academic issues. He soon transferred to Gulf Shores Academy, a charter school, where he repeated his grade. Green was selected as an All-American.

In addition, he was the leading scorer in the McDonald’s All-American Game. He also defeated Josh Roberts in the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest. Green had previously committed to Oklahoma State University, but he later decided to enter the NBA Draft instead. He was one of the final players to enter the NBA straight out of high school.

Career

Gerald Green spent the majority of his career as a Shooting Guard/Small Forward. Green was selected 18th overall by the Boston Celtics. He spent two seasons with the Celtics before being acquired in the Kevin Garnett trade in 2007. Green found himself on the bench after being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2007. Wolves agreed to a trade with Green. He was traded to his hometown team, the Houston Rockets, but was soon released.

Green also played overseas for Lokomotiv Kuban, Foshan Dralions, and Krasnye Krylia before returning to the NBA on December 8 when he signed with Los Angeles, but he was waived by the Lakers on December 22. He signed with the NBA Development League’s Los Angeles D-Fenders. He was named NBA D-League All-Star Game Most Valuable Player at the NBA D-League All-Star Game.

He signed a 10-day contract with the New Jersey Nets in 2012, where his dunk against Houston went viral and is considered one of the best dunks of all time. Jersey signed him for the rest of the season. Before joining the Boston Celtics in 2016, he had previously played for the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns. Green resigned from Houston after two seasons in 2018.

In October of the 2020-21 season, he announced his retirement and joined the Houston coaching staff. Green came out of retirement on January 28 and signed with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G-League.
