Gwen Shamblin Biography

Gwen Shamblin Lara was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 18, 1955. As a result, she was reared in a Christian home. She also went to the University of Tennessee. She went on to Memphis State University to pursue her master’s degree. After their private plane crashed into a lake near Nashville, she, her husband, Joe Lara, and five others died. As a result, the plane was on its way to the town’s International Airport. It slammed into Percy Priest Lake in Smyrna, Tennessee, at the time. It was located around 12 miles east of Nashville. In addition, she passed away on May 29, 2021, at the age of 66.

Shamblin, Gwen Lara’s weight had caused her a lot of troubles in the past. In 1986, she started the Weigh Down Workshop. There are no food restrictions, exercise routines, weigh-ins, or calorie tracking in this weight loss program. Weigh Down Workshop was created when she was pursuing her master’s degree. As a result, she held the first lesson as part of a counseling facility in a mall in Memphis, Tennessee. The program was also taught in small groups in retail and non-religious contexts. She began hosting the show at Bellevue Baptist Church in the 1990s.

The program consisted of a 12-week class guided by video and audio CDs featuring Lara. The curriculum was offered in about 600 congregations in 35 states by 1994. Furthermore, the initiative had grown to about 5,000 congregations by July 1996. Around 8 churches in the United Kingdom hosted workshops in December 1996. Some participants in the United States also hosted meetings in their homes. Weigh Down Workshop eventually grew to 40 employees in 1996. It also established a headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee.

By August 1998, the workshop had hosted over 21,000 classes with over 250,000 attendees from all around the world. It’s worth noting that classes were held in every state in the United States, as well as Canada and Europe. She was also chastised for referring to herself as a Christian.

Gwen Shamblin Husband, Marriage

Gwen Shamblin previously married David Shamblin in 1978. Unfortunately, they split in 2018 for unexplained reasons. Michael Shamblin and Elizabeth Hannah, their children, are their names. She later married Joe Lara, an actor, in 2018. They remained together until May 29, 2021, when they died in a plane crash.
