CBS’s summary for How We Roll reads as follows:

“It is based on the story of professional bowler Tom Smallwood and stars Pete Holmes as Tom, a stoic Midwest husband, and father who is laid off from a car assembly line and decides to support for his family by pursuing his ambition of becoming a professional bowler. Tom understands that with bowling, you have two opportunities; no matter what you do with the first ball, you get a second chance to make it right—the ultimate second chance.”

It goes on to say:

“With that in mind, Tom embarks on his new profession with Jen’s blessing, Archie’s unwavering support as his mentor and proud owner of Archie’s Lanes: Home of the Curly Fry, Helen’s cautious support, and Sam’s encouragement. Tom’s chances of making the Pro Bowl are still up in the air, but the pins are placed, he’s taking his second shot, and it’s 300 or bust!”

What Is The Plot Of The Show?

How We Roll is based on the actual tale of Tom Smallwood, a Michigan man who quit his work in automated manufacturing to pursue a career as a professional bowler.

Tom, in his fictionalized form, also bowls for free in a bowling alley owned by a buddy. His wife, Jen, is also behind him, and the show is expected to focus on both Tom’s personal and professional lives, possibly becoming “the ultimate second chance narrative.”

The CBS Sitcom’s Trailer

Tom’s path towards chasing his ambition of bowling professionally was highlighted in the trailer for How We Roll, which was recently published by ET. With the exception of his mother, who sounded hesitant about taking such a major risk, his wife Jen and buddy Archi urged him to do so.

Roll with the Changes, a 1978 optimistic song by REO Speedwagon, is also featured in the trailer, hinting at the subjects the film will likely address. It also implies that it will be a traditional CBS comedy in the vein of Mike and Molly and The Big Bang Theory, complete with laugh tracks and a multi-camera setup.
