Career

Howard Lutnick began his career at Cantor Fitzgerald in 1983, shortly after graduating from college. While working at the firm, he became close to the firm’s founder, Bernard Cantor, who also served as his personal mentor.

He was appointed CEO and President of the company in 1991, and chairman in 1996. Lutnick made a big decision when he took eSpeed public. At the time, eSpeed was a subsidiary of Cantor Fitzgerald. This is what allowed the company to survive after nearly three-quarters of its brokers were killed in the attack. Because eSpeed was an electronic trading subsidiary, it was fortunate that it did not require brokers to trade publicly.

When the company was split into two separate entities, each with different operations, Lutnick became the head of the London Office. Cantor continued to manage bond trading desks as well as large stock trades. BGC, the newly formed company, would engage in broker-driven trading. Cantor had to borrow $400 million to fund the growth of the newly formed company because the two companies operated independently. Lutnick oversaw the merger of BGC Partners and eSpeed in 2008, which was valued at $1.3 billion.

His net worth is increasing by the day, and he may be richer than he is today in the future; the sky is the limit for him.

Howard Lutnick Wife, Marriage

Lutnick married Allison Lambert on December 10, 1994, and the couple has four children. His two sons, Brandon and Kyle, started preschool and kindergarten on the same day, September 11, 2001, the day of the attack that killed 658 of his company’s employees. He arrived late for work that day because he had to drop his son off at kindergarten.
