His father made a cameo appearance in his first film, The Twins Effect II.His second film appearance was in the Hong Kong romance film 2 Young, in which he co-starred with Hong Kong Cantopop singer Fiona Sit. They worked together again on Break Up Club in 2010. In 2007, he appeared alongside Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue in Benny Chan’s action film Invisible Target.

Despite extensive advertising and prizes, his albums and films have not been commercially successful. His film Double Trouble only made $9,000 in its first two weeks in Hong Kong. In order to appeal to local audiences, Chinese websites reported in early 2009 that he had renounced his US citizenship in favor of Chinese citizenship. He played the younger version of his father’s character Master Monkey in Secrets of the Furious Five. He also played Master Crane in Kung Fu Panda’s Cantonese remake and its sequel, Kung Fu Panda 2. Jaycee and his father Jackie appeared in Jackie’s 100th film, 1911. The result was Jackie Chan’s lowest-grossing and worst-received film to date.

In order to reach non-Chinese consumers, his studios hired Korean and Singaporean artists Jang Na-ra and Fann Wong to promote Jaycee’s new film, Whoever. Jaycee’s life as a playboy to a famous father was mocked in the film. Despite a government order requiring it to be shown in half of China’s cinemas, the film was a box office flop, failing to even crack the top ten in China. The studios chose not to release the film in theaters in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Chan is frequently regarded as a “spendthrift” and “playboy,” whose films and songs have failed to achieve commercial or critical success despite extensive marketing and support. People’s Daily named Chan one of China’s top “wastrel” funeral in 2014, a derogatory term for people who inherited wealth but are not respected. Following his arrest in 2014, Chan was stripped of multi-million dollar endorsements and contracts with Adidas, Nivea, Yishion, Johnson & Johnson contact lenses, Stride gum, KFC, and Chevrolet.
