“Jennifer Lawrence’s Causeway” Is Set To Be Released On Apple TV+

Jennifer Lawrence's Causeway

Causeway will finally be available on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. ET. Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry feature in the psychological thriller, with the former playing a damaged soldier and the latter as a car mechanic. Causeway is about “a soldier having to adapt to her life after coming home to New Orleans,” according to the Apple TV+ website. The film had its global debut on September 10, 2022, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Almost a month later, on October 8, Causeway was exhibited at the BFI London Film Festival. On both occasions, the film garnered very positive feedback.

Causeway’s plot, cast, crew, and reception are all covered in this guide.

The teaser for the film, which debuted last month, depicted a distraught Lynsey (played by Lawrence) striving to return to her life in her New Orleans home. Several sequences of her effectively demonstrated her pent-up fury. These included her being restless when lying in bed or soaking in the sun rays while riding the bus, and they were notably noticeable in the scenario where she was swearing after driving a vehicle. Her disappointments and problems were exacerbated by the fact that her brother was an addict and their mother was an alcoholic.

Despite the fact that the film’s synopsis claims that Lynsey was sent to Afghanistan and sustained brain damage, the viewer does not witness this in the trailer. The short does, however, imply that her bond with James (played by Brian Tyree Henry) might be the treatment she needs. It should be mentioned that Lynsey isn’t the only one going through a difficult time in her life; James, too, is going through difficulties. There’s a scenario when he looks sullenly at something that seems to convey the same thing.

Linda Emond, Jayne Houdyshell, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Joshua Hull, Russell Harvard, Fred Weller, Sean Carvajal, Will Pullen, and Neal Huff also appear in Causeway. While Emond will portray Gloria (Lynsey’s mother), Henderson will play Dr. Lucas, Houdyshell will play Sharon (a caregiver), and Hull will play a security contractor.

Causeway was directed by Lila Neugebauer and produced by Lawrence and Justine Polsky. The screenplay was written by Elizabeth Sanders, Luke Goebel, and Ottessa Moshfegh, and the film was directed by Diego Garcia.

How did the film fare?

Rotten Tomatoes gives the 92-minute film an 88% approval rating based on 44 ratings. According to Empire Magazine’s John Nugent, the picture has been “beautifully staged,” and Lawrence and Henry “play up a quiet, tremendous storm.”He did, however, say that the “restrained” filming and lack of intensity in the narrative left us “wanting more.”

In terms of awards, Neugebauer’s Causeway has already received the Best First Feature Award at the Rome Film Festival. Meanwhile, Henry has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Performance at the Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Apple TV+ at the Academy Awards

Experts believe Causeway, together with Emancipation, will be Apple TV+’s presentation for the Academy Awards next year. The historical action movie, directed by Will Smith, is based on the story of Gordon alias Whipped Peter, an escaped American slave. Throughout the American Civil War, a picture of his back with keloid scars became the most prominent emblem of the abolitionist cause.

Emancipation is scheduled to be released in December 2022. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ has seen Oscar glory. In 2022, their picture CODA won the Academy Award for Best Picture, making it the first streamer to get the coveted award in the event.
