She is the most senior of five sisters. Donald Carl Jacobs, her father, was a bank teller and U.S. Navy signalman during WWII, then used the G.I. Bill to attend business school and become the head of a savings and loan institution in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood.
