John Gotti was born in the South Bronx, New York, on October 27, 1940. J. Joseph Gotti is John’s father, and Fannie Gotti is his mother. They were both Italian immigrants. John was the fifth of 13 children in a family whose only source of income was their father’s erratic work as a day laborer. Gotti was working as an errand boy in an underground club run by the head of the local largest organized crime family, Gambino, Carmine Fatico, when he was 12 years old.
