Career

Kliff Kingsbury was a quarterback for the school squad throughout his high school years. He then proceeded to play football in college. From 1998 to 1999, he played under coach Spike Dykes at the collegiate level. He also played for Mike Leach from 2000 to 2002. He set 39 school records as well as 13 Big 12 Conference records. He also established seven NCAA FBS records. Following his outstanding performance, the coaches named Kliff to the All-District first team and the All-Big 12 Conference second team. He eventually earned the Sammy Baugh Trophy as the nation’s finest collegiate passer at the conclusion of the 2002 season.

In addition, he was nominated for the Heisman Trophy, where he finished ninth. The National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame also gave him a scholarship. On September 6, 2004, he signed with the New Orleans Saints, where he spent the whole 2004 season. He also played in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League. In 2008, Kliff started his coaching career. He then worked as a coach at the University of Houston until 2011. For the 2012 season, he worked as an offensive coach for Texas A&M’s former coach, Kevin Sumlin. On December 12, 2012, Kliff returned to Texas Tech as the school’s 15th full-time head coach. Since 2019, he has been with the Arizona Cardinals.
