Kwasi Kwarteng was born in Waltham Forest, London, England on May 26, 1975. He is of British nationality and of mixed ethnicity. As of 2024, he is 49 years old. Alfred K. Kwarteng and Charlotte Boaitey-Kwarteng, who had emigrated from Ghana as students in the 1960s, had him as their only child. His mother is a barrister, and his father works for the Commonwealth Secretariat as an economist.
In terms of education, he began his education at a state primary school. In 1988, he won the Harrow History Prize at Colet Court, an independent preparatory school in London. He then attended Eton College, where he was a King’s Scholar and received the prestigious Newcastle Scholarship. At Trinity College, Cambridge, he majored in classics and history, earning a first in both subjects and twice winning the Browne Medal.
He was a member of the University Challenge winning team in 1995 (the first series after the BBC revived the program in 1994).
