Lydia Ko Biography

Lydia was born in Seoul, South Korea, relocated to New Zealand with her family as an infant, and at the age of 12 became a citizen of that country. Prior to joining the professional golf tour, she attended Mairangi Bay Primary and Pinehurst School in Albany, New Zealand, where she also completed correspondence courses.

Her mother introduced her to the Pupuke Golf Club on Auckland’s North Shore when she was five years old, where she met her first coach, Guy Wilson, who trained her until 2013. When she was seven years old, she gained notoriety for participating in the New Zealand national amateur championships.
