Marco Antonio Rubio was born in Miami, Florida on May 28, 1971. He was born to Mario Rubio Reina, his father, and Orioles Rubio, his mother. His parents were Cuban immigrants who were not citizens of the United States. They became citizens of the United States when Marco was nearly nineteen years old.
Marco’s parents came to America to escape the violent crimes that were taking place in Cuba. They immigrated to the United States shortly before Fidel Castro’s ascension to power. His mother visited Cuba at least four times after Castro took power.
Marco grew up in a Roman Catholic household with three siblings. To provide for their family, his father worked as a bartender at Sam’s Town Hotel and his mother as a housekeeper at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino.
