From 2004 to 2009, Mark was the head coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack basketball team. In five years, he led the Wolf Pack to five postseason appearances, including three NCAA tournaments. Similarly, in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, the Wolf Pack won the Western Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

In addition, the team won the conference tournament in 2006. Furthermore, while at Nevada, he was named conference coach of the year twice (in 2005 and 2006). Then he left the program to become the head coach at Georgia. Furthermore, on April 3, 2009, it was announced that Fox would leave Nevada for the same position at the University of Georgia.

Furthermore, in his first year as head coach, he led the Bulldogs to a 14–17 record and a sixth-place finish in the Southeastern Conference East. The Bulldogs improved during his second season in 2011. As a result, for the first time since 2008, the 2010–11 team won 21 games, finished third in the SEC East, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Similarly, after leading his team to the NIT in 2013–14, this coach led his team back to the NCAA Tournament in 2014–15. While at Georgia, he placed three players in the NBA: Travis Leslie, Trey Thompkins, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the eighth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Further, Georgia announced Fox would not return for a 10th season on March 10, 2018. In addition, it was announced that Mark would be hired as the new head coach of the Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley, on March 29, 2019. Fox is the school’s 18th head coach in school history.
