MasterChef Season 12 is nearly here, and we can’t wait to test out all of the show’s new dishes. Michael Silverstein is one of twenty participants returning to the competition for a chance to win a whopping $250,000. Michael initially participated in MasterChef in Season 10 and finished 15th. He was never last in any challenge until week six when he was eliminated.

34-year-old Michael Silverstein was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a real estate flipper before becoming a chef and participating in MasterChef. Michael mentioned in an interview with Medium that he wanted to pursue a career in cooking when he was 13 and began working at a local Italian restaurant. He said,

“I recall being in amazement as I watched the busy kitchen complete dinner service. If there was one event in my life that started me on the path to becoming a chef, it was that moment.”

In an interview with Beyondish, he claimed that as a youngster, he enjoyed cooking with his mother and would frequently tell his sisters that one day he would own a restaurant. Michael also disclosed in the Medium interview that he weighed over 300 pounds when he was 30 and sought to reduce weight organically. He decided to make some healthy dietary modifications by embarking on a ketogenic diet. He said,

“I began the Ketogenic diet and, as a chef, automatically began producing Keto meals that I just loved to eat. I was losing weight, feeling well, and making some delicious Keto meals, so I was encouraged to post those recipes online to help others achieve the same results.”

He began uploading images and videos of his meals on Instagram, where he rapidly gained a sizable fan base. Because of the diet, he shed more than 80 pounds in a year. He was then noticed by MasterChef producers, and he participated in the program.

Following the completion of the performance, Michael relocated to Texas. In 2020, he released his own cookbook, New Keto Cooking, in which he discussed several keto recipes that aid in weight loss. Michael is also a proponent of the low-carb diet. In January 2022, he published his second book, New Comfort Cooking: Homestyle Keto Recipes That Won’t Bust Your Belt or Wallet.

He presently hosts his own podcast, The Talk with Chef Michael, in which he discusses weight reduction tactics, keto eating, and other cuisine dishes. He publishes his own recipes on his website and has been published in publications such as Good Day Austin, NPR, and Delish.
