Regarding his career, Mike began coaching after his playing career was abruptly ended. Furthermore, he couldn’t give up the game because he loved it so much. He held his first coaching position at the University of Missouri from 1979 to 1980. He worked as a defensive assistant there on the side. Following that, he spent eight years at Weber State College in a variety of coaching positions.

From 1989 to 1993, he was a defensive back and defensive coordinator for the Washington State Cougars. Thus, after 14 years of hard work in college football, he got his first shot at the NFL in 1994 with the Dallas Cowboys.

He remained with the club until 2006. Mike won Super Bowl XXX in 1995 during his 12-year tenure in Dallas. The Illinois native began his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 before moving on to the Cincinnati Bengals.

In addition, he served as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2013. He later took over as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Since then, he has led his team to two NFC North championships in 2015 and 2017. In 2018, the professional football coach continued to work with the Vikings.

He also became the fourth head coach in Minnesota Vikings history to win 40 games. He passed 52 franchise wins, as he did in 2019, to become the third coach. Later, in July 2020, this coach signed a three-year (through 2024) contract extension with the Vikings.
