Career

Miku is a Venezuelan professional footballer who plays as a striker for the Spanish club Deportivo de La Corua. He spent the majority of his career in Spain, where he played for a variety of clubs, beginning with Valencia. He also played for Getafe and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, and he won a Scottish double while on loan at Celtic in 2013. Miku also competed for Venezuela in two Copa América tournaments. Miku joined the Qatar Stars League club Al-Gharafa Sports Club for an undisclosed fee on September 30, 2013. In his first season, he scored five goals in 15 games and finished ninth out of 14 teams.

Miku joined Valencia CF’s youth system in 2001 when he was only sixteen years old. Soon after, in 2004, he began his professional career. For five consecutive seasons, he was loaned out by LaLiga giants to teams in the Spanish football system’s second and third tiers. Due to Valencia’s surplus of strikers at the time, he was sold to Getafe CF in 2010 and signed a four and a half year contract with the club. Furthermore, Miku made his Venezuelan National Team debut on August 16, 2006, at the age of 21. This was a friendly match against Honduras that ended in a 0-0 draw.

Over time, he established himself as a regular for the national team, which competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Miku appeared in only a handful of games during his time as an official Valencia player. However, when he did play, he had a significant impact. On August 27, 2009, he scored a hat-trick in a 4–1 home win over Stabk Football in the UEFA Europa League. Miku made significant contributions to his national team’s success in the Copa America twice. In 2009, he scored twice to secure second place in the group table in a tournament in which they finished fourth. In February 2016, he was named LaLiga player of the month.

Miku, 32, signed a two-year contract with Bengaluru FC of the Indian Super League in August 2017. He scored his first goal for them on November 26th in a 4–1 rout of Delhi Dynamos FC, and he added three braces in his first season, against FC Goa (3–4 away), FC Pune City (3–1, away), and Kerala Blasters FC (3–1, also away). Miku and his team won the competition in the 2018–19 season, defeating Goa 1–0 in extra time in the final. Miku had a fairly successful spell at Getafe, scoring on numerous occasions to help his team win. This included two goals in Getafe’s 3-0 win over his former club, Valencia.

After brief stints at Gharafa and Rayo Vallecano, he signed a two-year contract with Bengaluru FC, a newly formed ISL team. He was the tournament’s second-highest scorer, propelling Bengaluru to the final in their first year in the ISL. Venezuela finished third in their group at the next Copa America, which was a letdown. They then failed to qualify for the tournament’s knockout stages. The Venezuelan Football Federation’s president accused 15 players, including Miku, of plotting to oust their manager.

Furthermore, following the allegation, all of the accused players threatened to leave the team. According to many football pundits, his lack of opportunities in Spain prevented him from achieving the level of success that he could have achieved with his talent. Miku signed a one-year contract with Cypriot First Division club AC Omonia on August 20, 2019. Then, on September 25, 2020, he will return to Spain after signing a contract with Deportivo La Corua, which was recently relegated to the third division.
