He attended Abraham Lincoln High School and showed an interest in music as early as second grade.  Neil Sedaka and his classmates formed the Linc-Tones, a vocal group, shortly after graduating from high school. They began as a local band and went on to have minor hits. However, he left the group in 1957 to pursue a career as a solo artist. Despite the fact that his first records did not fare well, they were gracious enough to secure him his first recording contract with RCA Victor.
