Nolan Kay Bushnell was born in Clear Field, Utah, on February 5, 1943. During his high school years, while working at Lagoon Amusement Park, he developed a strong interest in video games.

Nolan Kay Bushnell enrolled at Utah State University in 1961, where he majored in engineering and later switched to business. He chose to attend the University of Utah College of Engineering. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.

During his time at university, he developed an interest in arcade games while playing Space War Game, and in 1969, he co-founded Syzygy studio with Ted Dabney. They set up the studio specifically to create a clone of the Space War game. Computer Space was the name of the studio.

He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In the 1960s, he was among the students who learned to use computers.

Bushnell’s interest in video games grew throughout his career. Bushnell and a friend founded Atari Inc. Video, a game developer and home computer company, in 1972. After three years, Pong, the home design of video games, became well-known in the market.

Bushnell released another video game in 2006, which was a financial success, selling over 200,000 copies. He later sold Atari for $28 million to Warner Communications. He did, however, keep his position as chairman.

In the 1980s, Bushnell worked hard to keep Atari’s position because it was one of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. The company earned $1.3 billion per year. Bushnell’s daily bread was now solely provided by the business.

Parallel to Atari’s development in 1977, Nolan Bushnell began another business project after purchasing Pizza Time Theatre from Warner Communications, which became the Chuck E. Cheesy’s Pizza Time Theatre chain of family entertainment centers originally envisioned as a place where children could eat pizza and play Atari’s video games. Nonetheless, Nolan resigned from the company in 1984 after it was declared bankrupt. Despite the failure of his first venture, Nolan went on to found Catalyst Technologies, one of the first business incubators, which housed syndicates such as Androbot, Etak, Summa, and Axlon. The enrollments increased Nolan Bushnell’s net worth.
