During the 2012-13 season, Oliver started his ice hockey career with J20 SuperElit in the Swedish junior ice hockey league. He spent two years with J20. When he was 16, he made his Swedish Hockey League debut with Färjestad BK during the 2013-14 season. On January 10, 2014, he signed a two-year contract extension with Färjestad BK. Following that, in the 2014 KHL Junior Draft, Avangard Omsk selected him 107th overall.
On November 10, 2014, Kylington was loaned by Färjestads to HockeyAllsvenskan side AIK for the 2014-15 season. The Calgary Flames selected Kylington in the second round, 60th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level deal with the organization on July 15, 2015. On April 9, 2016, he made his NHL debut against the Minnesota Wild.
