Padraig began golfing with his family at age 5. As an amateur, he played in the Walker Cup three times against the US (1991, 1993, and 1995). He received a bachelor’s in accounting before starting his work at 24. Padraig finished in the top 10 in three of his first eight professional tournaments and won his ninth, the 1996 Spanish Open in Madrid.

He and Paul McGinley won the World Cup the following year. His Ryder Cup debut was in 1999. He won the Ryder Cup in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2010 and his first two PGA Tour victories in 2005. Harrington won the European Tour’s Order of Merit in 2006.
