Peter Edward Cook was born on 17 November 1937, he was born. He was born in Torquay, Devon, England. Peter was the eldest of the three children and the only son. Alexander Edward “Alec” Cook (father) and Ethel Catherine Margaret Cook (mother) are his parents (mother). His father was a colonial civil servant, and his mother was Charles Mayo’s daughter.

He was educated at Radley College and then at Cambridge’s Pembroke College. He became involved with the Footlights Club while there, eventually becoming president. Later in life, he became a member of the Cambridge University Liberal Club.
