His father, Owen Frampton, was a teacher and the head of the art department at Bromley Technical High School, where Frampton had previously attended as a young student. He originally developed an interest in music when he was seven years old.

Later on, he teaches himself how to play the piano and guitar. At the age of eight, he started taking lessons in classical music. He was greatly influenced in his early years by Cliff Richard and the Shadows, American rockers Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran, as well as the Ventures, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles.
