In terms of schooling, he attended Phillips Academy Andover before enrolling at Harvard University. He had a successful varsity career at Harvard, captaining the team twice and competing in NCAA singles and doubles titles. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature before enrolling at Harvard Business School.
