Phil auditioned for the New Zealand children’s show Spot On while completing a television cameraman apprenticeship, and he was successful at the age of 19. He also worked in New Zealand as a presenter and as a reporter for “That’s Fairly Interesting.”

Phil suffered a panic attack at the age of 19 after diving down to the shipwreck of MS Mikhail Lermontov 120 feet underwater with his partner. This was a near-death experience that occurred while filming. His diving partner rescued him. Despite his fear, Phil insisted on facing it and returned the next day to finish his filming. He made a No Opportunity Wasted (NOW) list of things he wanted to do in his life. Phil has worked as a host and showrunner for various reality competitions.

As the host of the reality show “Tough as Nails,” Keoghan stated that he is inspired by people such as gold miners, builders, coal miners, and others who put in long hours and are not afraid to roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and provide for their families.

Furthermore, the No Opportunity Wasted mantra was heavily reflected in his television show, which he co-created and debuted in 2004.
