Richard appeared in what proved to be the biggest break of his acting career in 1961. He portrayed Dr. Kildare in the NBC/MGM television series of the same name. Richard had an advantage as a singer because he was the one who wrote the series theme song, “Three Stars Will Shine Tonight.” The show aired until 1966.
