Ronald William Howard (a.k.a. Ron Howard) is an American film director, producer, and actor. He first gained prominence as Andy Griffith’s son Opie on “The Andy Griffith Show” and also appeared on “Happy Days” as youngster Richie Cunningham. His 2001 picture “A Beautiful Mind” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, and Howard was named Best Director. At the time of Ron’s birth, he had served three years in the United States Air Force. Additionally, he directed the films “Apollo 13” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss.
Additionally, Ron acted as executive producer and narrator for the hit comedy series “Arrested Development.” In 1986, he co-founded Imagine Entertainment with producer Brian Grazer. Ron has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his achievements in the television and film industries. He is of American nationality and comes from a mixed ethnic heritage, having ancestors from Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
