O’Sullivan made his professional debut in 1992 when he was 16 years old. At the age of 17 years and 358 days, he won his first ranking championship at the 1993 UK Championship, making him the youngest player to win a professional ranking tournament, a record he still holds. He is also the youngest player to win the Masters, which he did for the first time in 1995 when he was 19 years and 69 days old. He is now well-known for his endurance in the sport, having participated in a record 29 consecutive World Championships between 1993 and 2021. In 2020, he became the second-oldest player in modern snooker history, behind Ray Reardon in 1978, to win a world championship.

O’Sullivan, one of the sport’s most prolific break-builders, produced his first competitive century break at the age of ten and his first competitive maximum break at the age of fifteen. In 2019, he became the first and only player in the professional competition to break 1,000 career century breaks, a record he has subsequently expanded to over 1,100 centuries.
