Saina Nehwal is the daughter of Harvir Singh Nehwal (Father) and Usha Rani Nehwal (Mother) (Mother). Her only sibling is a sister named Chandranshu Nehwal.

After moving from Haryana to Hyderabad, eight-year-old Saina Nehwal started playing tennis. To communicate with other kids, she played badminton.

Saina Nehwal became the first to win the Asian Satellite Badminton event twice and the under-19 national champion in 2006.

She won the Phillippines Open, a four-star tournament, at 16. After joining the international badminton circuit, Nehwal competed in the 2006 BWF World Junior Championships, 2006 Doha Asian Games, and 2007 World Championships.

She became the first Indian World Junior Badminton Champion in 2008. The BWF named her “The Most Promising Player” after she won the Chinese Taipei Open that year.

The first Indian BWF Super Series champion, she won the Indonesian Open in 2009. She won the India Grand Prix that year. Saina Nehwal won the 2010 India Open Grand Prix, Singapore Open Super Series, and Indonesia Open.

She won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and the Hong Kong Super Series, her fourth career title. 2011 Swiss Open champion.

The following year, she defended her Swiss, Thailand, Indonesian, and Denmark Open titles. London Olympics bronze.
