Savannah Guthrie Discusses Her Miscarriage And Parenting Experience

Savannah Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie, an Australian-born American broadcast journalist, and attorney, is the joyful mother of two children, Vale Guthrie Feldman, and Charles Max Feldman. She shares her two little munchkins with her husband, Democratic political and communications expert Michael Feldman, with whom she has been married since March 15, 2014.

Guthrie’s route to motherhood, however, was not an easy one, as she had been through a lot in her life, including a miscarriage. During a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, in which she featured with her NBC’s Today show co-star Hoda Kotb, the 50-year-old anchor said that she had reservations about being able to conceive when she was 41, especially after a loss.

And she had yet to become a mother at that age.

“I stopped even allowing myself to hope or think I could [get pregnant] since the years were ticking away,” she explained her position. “I didn’t think it was impossible; I simply didn’t think it was probable. I didn’t want to raise my expectations.”

Guthrie even consoled herself by telling herself that she had so much in her life and that not having a kid shouldn’t be making her unhappy.

“In retrospect, that thinking was most likely a self-defense strategy,” she noted.

Michael Feldman is very Supportive of Savannah.

But the television personality also knew the value of having strong support networks, people around them who encourage them to keep optimistic and trust that things would work out in their favor. Her mother, who apparently helped Guthrie face numerous challenges in her life, was that support system in her life from the beginning.

“It was lovely having her since she was always so sure,” she remembered. “‘Of course, you’re going to have your family, Savannah!’ she’d exclaim. It felt great.”

Later, she received support from her husband Feldman, whom she met on holiday in Turks & Caicos in 2009. The couple finally got engaged in 2013 and married on March 15, 2014, in Tucson, Arizona.

Miscarriage occurred, but she was blessed with two children.

Guthrie unexpectedly revealed two days after the wedding that she was four months pregnant with her and Feldman’s first child. Guthrie said in March 2014, “I — will, we — are four months pregnant.” “We are ecstatic, happy, and grateful.” Vale, the couple’s first child, was born on August 13, 2014, weighing 8 lbs. 5 oz. And she measured 19.5 inches long. Vale has “blue eyes, a little blondish hair, and the chubbiest cheeks you’ve ever seen,” according to Guthrie. However, the television host’s problems did not stop there, as she later miscarried. She was devastated by the miscarriage, but she was determined to overcome her worries.

After the miscarriage, she had two rounds of IVF, which assisted her in becoming pregnant again. And in 2016, she and her husband had their second child; a boy called Charles. She told Good Housekeeping that she and her children were at a comfortable place in their life and that she had no regrets about becoming an “older” parent. Instead, she thought she could devote more time to her family since the “30-year-old version of myself” could not reconcile job and family life.
