Sawyer Fredericks Has Opened Up About His Sexuality

Sawyer Fredericks

Sawyer Fredericks, the Season 8 winner of The Voice, has spoken out about his sexuality. The 22-year-old winner, who was on Pharrell Williams’ team on the program, came out as bisexual in an Instagram post to his fans.

The Voice judge started his speech with:

“Since I haven’t said it publicly in a post, I’d want to state that I am bisexual. I used to think I was straight since I was more attracted to women, and I had no idea there were other possibilities except Gay and Straight. As a result, I thought I was Straight. I am fortunate in that I have never faced discrimination or been embarrassed of my sexual orientation. I sincerely apologize to everyone who has been affected, and I hope things improve for you.”

Sawyer Frederick revealed information about his companion.

According to Frederick’s interview with The Daily Gazette, the singer said that he and his boyfriend had been living in a 700-square-foot apartment in downtown Troy:

“It’s nothing like living on a farm.” It’s fine. It has a lot of personality. “I’ve had a good time.”

The Season 8 winner of The Voice said that it was his first time living with someone other than a family member and that it had been a positive experience. He informed the Daily Gazette that he met his companion roughly five years ago at a rock climbing club. The Voice judge discussed how they divide their cleaning tasks and how it is nothing compared to growing up on a farm:

“We both have duties for keeping the apartment tidy. I wouldn’t even call them duties. I’m so accustomed to chores being something like, ‘you’re going to go out to the barn and muck a huge stall.’ So all I have to do is sweep the floor? It’s simple.”

In 2015, the singer-songwriter won Season 8 of The Voice. The singer impressed the judges with his performance, which had a deep voice and a forceful delivery. After winning the very competitive NBC television competition, he made his big debut with A Good Storm, followed by one of his most well-known albums, Hide Your Ghost, in 2018, which he wrote and produced himself. Flowers for You, his most recent album, was released in 2020.

The Season 8 champion of The Voice was born in Newtown and raised in Roxbury before migrating to upstate New York. He discussed how the pandemic had influenced him as an artist in an interview with the Daily Gazette:

“Not being able to tour and having to rely solely on social media has really thrown me for a loop. I wouldn’t say that moving to social media is a pleasurable experience for me. I genuinely miss playing in front of a live audience, and I discovered this when I was doing the ‘lives’ livestreams. The livestreams were helpful, but I still craved this kind of connection.”

Sawyer Fredericks also told People Magazine how excited he was to return to his family’s farm in upstate New York after winning The Voice Season 8:

“I’m very pleased to be able to come back to work on the farm and just really soak in the wide space and environment surrounding my house, which is just fantastic.”

Fans praised Fredericks on his Instagram post, with many supporting his choice to come out. They saw it as an inspiration and source of courage for those who are hesitant to come out about their sexuality. The eighth season of The Voice aired on NBC on February 23, 2015. The judges were Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton, and Christine Aguilera.
