Sometimes When We Touch

The brand new documentary series Sometimes When We Touch will premiere on Paramount+ on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 3 a.m. ET/ 12 a.m. PT. The concert will be divided into three sections and will trace the epic history of Soft Rock music.

Chuck Thompson wrote the script for the documentary filmed by Lauren Lazin. In addition, Pete Sepenuk will serve as the docu-series narrator in Sometimes When We Touch. Van Toffler produces the program, alongside executive producers Bruce Gillmer, David Gale, Chuck Thompson, and Vanessa WhiteWolf. The Paramount+ docu-series was also co-produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and Gunpowder & Sky. Since the initial trailer for the program was released by Paramount+, the public, particularly fans of the Soft-Rock music genre, has been excited to see what the documentary series would bring to the table.

The three-part documentary series Sometimes When We Touch will follow the evolution of Soft Rock as a musical genre.

What can we anticipate from the docu-series based on the trailer?

On December 13, 2022, Paramount+ published the teaser for the highly anticipated docu-series. Following this, Soft Rock music enthusiasts voiced their eagerness to see the series. In addition, Paramount+ released an official description for Sometimes When We Touch, which read:

“Pop music was ruled by soft rock. Then it became a joke. Its impact can now be detected everywhere, from hip-hop samples to TikTok. The unique new series chronicles a musical era via its most cherished songs, stories, and artists.”

The docu-series, titled The Reign, Ruin, and Resurrection of Soft Rock, will dive into all of the phases the music genre has gone through so far. Furthermore, it will transport viewers on a nostalgic trip to the colorful and exhilarating world of Soft Rock music, as well as provide them with insights into the lives of famous performers affiliated with the genre. Van Toffler, CEO of Gunpowder & Sky, told Variety magazine about the Paramount+ documentary series:

“You may trash, slam, and disparage soft rock all you want, but I’m sure you know every song in the Hall & Oates discography,…Personally, I’m glad that youth are now learning about the Carpenters and Michael McDonald’s qualities via their sampling in modern hip-hop.”

Who will appear in the docu-series?

Hit songs by John Oates, Daryl Hall, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Air Supply, the Carpenters, Ambrosia, Lionel Richie, and Captain & Tennille will be included in the documentary series.

In addition, Sheryl Crow, Run DMC’s Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Stewart Copeland of the Police, Susanna Hoffs, Richard Marx, LA Reid, Verdine White, Robert “Kool” Bell, Toni Tennille, Loggins, Ray Parker Jr., Dan Hill, and a few more will be interviewed in the series.
