Squid Game Star Lee Jung-jae Won Best Actor Award At The 27th Critics Choice Awards

Lee Jung-jae, the star of Squid Game, has done it again again. At the 27th Critics Choice Awards, the South Korean actor took home the prize for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The Critics’ Choice Movie Award is an event that recognizes the best cinematic accomplishments in the business. The American-Canadian Critics Choice Association hosts the event each year. Voting is done via written ballots submitted throughout a week-long nomination phase.

Lee Jung-jae became the first Korean actor to win Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 27th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on March 13, 2022. Furthermore, Lee took on the starring part of Seong Gi-hun and got the advantages of his outstanding acting abilities. Lee Jung-jae beat out other candidates such as Succession’s Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. With his initial acceptance speech, he also had the crowd in fits of laughter. According to the actor:

“Thank you, God.”

He proceeded to thank everyone who was there on and off set throughout the smash series’ production. Lee expressed his thanks and praised Netflix, the internet streaming company, for paving the way for his achievement.

Furthermore, the K-drama won two of the three prizes it was nominated for: Best Foreign Language Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae). The show was also nominated for Best Drama Series, but Succession won. Squid Game beat out Acapulco, Call My Agent!, Lupin, Money Heist, and Narcos: Mexico to win the prize for Best Foreign Language series. In the first 28 days following its premiere in September 2021, the K-drama became the most-watched series on Netflix, with over 1.65 billion hours of watching time. Since then, the series has been nominated for and received several accolades for its actors’ and scriptwriters’ outstanding performances.

Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, and Jung Ho-yeon made history in February 2022 when they became the first Korean actors from a non-English-language series to win acting accolades at the annual SAG Awards. The pair received awards for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series, respectively. Notably, Jung Ho-appearance yeon’s in the drama series marked her acting debut. Later that night, the K-drama series was also named Best Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.
