Tamara Tunie

Tamara Tunie may not be a big name, but the actress has been in at least a few television series. She is one of television’s most prolific performers, having appeared in shows ranging from Black Earth Rising to Billions, 24, Blue Bloods, and Law & Order: SVU.

Tunie has also delved beyond the tiny screen, appearing in and directing various films and plays. She has received several honors, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and has achieved enormous professional success. One might suppose that her achievement came at the expense of her personal life. But the actress had a prosperous and happy personal life as well. She and her ex-husband, Gregory Generet, had been married for over two decades. Their marriage seemed to be every couple’s ideal union, but it split apart in 2015, much to everyone’s astonishment.

TMZ reported on February 3, 2015, that the couple had confirmed their separation but had not filed for divorce. The pair married in 1995, four years after Tunie divorced her first husband, Georgia lawyer Greg Bouquett. The former couple married in 1991 and had no children together. According to TMZ, Tunie and Generet divorced amicably, with the actress expressing her excitement for the future. They requested privacy and did not identify the cause for their divorce. “It is with considerable regret that Gregory and I are parting ways.” However, I am optimistic about what the future holds. “As we enter this new chapter of our life, we beg for privacy and thank you for your support,” Tunie said in a statement. Their divorce was announced a few years after they had divulged secrets of their long and happy marriage.

Tamara Tunie believes that communication is essential.

During an interview with Essence in 2021, the pair, who had one of the longest marriages by Hollywood standards, counseled other couples on how to make marriages endure. They said that communication, connection, and support were the keys to a long and happy marriage.

“At the end of the day, it comes down to love and support.” Any advice or constructive criticism we give one other is aimed at making the other person better. When asked how she and her spouse handled their love life and professional life, Tunie answered, “That’s a really important component.”
