Quick Facts About Tammy Bruce
|Full Name||Tammy Bruce|
|Date of Birth||Aug 20, 1962|
||5′ 8″ (173 cm)|
Bruce, who had always considered herself bisexual but chose to identify as a lesbian, was engaged to be married to Benet. However, her relationship with the actress did not end happily, and all information about her personal life was then withheld.
Benet’s death traumatized her.
Bruce worked as Benet’s secretary on Days of Our Lives. Benet was going through a period of grief at the time. She had been dealing with the loss of her son as well as a recent divorce from her ex-husband Bill Bixby. After a child and ten years of marriage, the actress divorced Bixby in 1979. Then, on March 1, 1981, she lost her son, Christopher Sean Bixby, to a rare childhood illness called acute epiglottitis.
Despite everything, Bruce remained close to Benet. They began dating again after Benet’s divorce (it has been reported that they had previously dated), and this time they even moved in together in a house in Mandeville Canyon in west Los Angeles. Their relationship, however, did not last long. They split up in March 1982 for unknown reasons but appeared to remain on good terms. Unbeknownst to Bruce, a tragedy would strike her life two weeks later.
Bruce had a lunch date with Benet on April 7, 1982. When she arrived at Benet’s house, she discovered that Benet had locked herself inside the bathroom. She called the cops, but it was too late by the time they arrived. When police arrived, they broke down the door and discovered Benet dead. She had killed herself by inflicting a gunshot wound on her head with a.38 caliber bullet.
Bruce suffered a mental breakdown as a result of the incident. She ended up in the hospital for a few days, and Benet’s ex-husband, Bill Bixby, paid her entire hospital bill.
She’d already come out in her twenties.
Bruce, born on August 20, 1962, grew up in poverty. Growing up without knowing her father was one issue; rarely seeing her hardworking store clerk mother was another, and then there was the issue of her homosexuality. She knew she was different from a young age and proudly identified as a lesbian.
And, despite being a conservative, she actively became a gay-lesbian activist, organizing marches and pressuring politicians for gay and women’s rights. Surprisingly, the Northridge native emphasizes that not all conservatives are hostile to the LGBT community.
In an October 2010 interview with The Guardian, she stated that many conservatives follow the faith and have a different perspective on homosexuality than she does. She then said that, contrary to popular belief, she found conservatives more understanding.
