The Direct Influence Of Kim Fields Mother On Her Acting Career

Kim Fields

Kim Fields began her career in acting at a very young age. By the time she was five years old, she was securing roles in major productions. Kim had an incredible role model in acting—her mother, Chip Fields. And she wasn’t simply inspired by her from afar. Kim’s decision to pursue acting was directly influenced by Chip. Chip and their financial frailty, on the other hand, did.

Kim Fields’ Mother Accompanied Her on the Ride

When Kim was a child, Chip was a single mother living in New York. Kim was an introverted child growing up. She was introduced to the performing arts by her mother. Kim could not afford a babysitter on her current income. As a result, she would take her to her acting classes. Kim was not the only child in the establishment. There were numerous other mothers in a similar situation, and she had a large social circle.

However, Kim would become bored while her mother was busy learning her trade. And the other children would as well. As a result, they began an imitation act to keep themselves entertained. “We entertained ourselves by imitating what we saw them do, which resulted in the establishment of acting classes for the younger children,” Kim told Parade in 2010. Despite having caught the acting bug early on, she was not compelled to pursue it professionally.

Kim previously admitted in the same interview that “I was never coerced into entering the industry.” She also lacked an actor’s demeanor. “I was never one to put on a show for friends and family at every gathering.” Her demeanor, it’s safe to say, shifted significantly shortly thereafter.

Chip began her acting career in earnest in 1974. Prior to this, she was a well-known singer who desired to broaden her horizons. And Kim did the same thing three years later. According to some sources, she made her television debut on Sesame Street at the age of five and began her acting career in commercials. Regardless, she made her television debut as Angie Ellis in Have I Got a Christmas for You in 1977. And then came the project for which she is best known: Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey in The Facts of Life. She now has over 60 acting credits, 23 directing credits, ten producing credits, and a few others in other facets of show business.

However, her primary and most important acting role in those acting classes will always be imitating her mother.
