“The Wonder” Is Set To Be Released On Netflix Soon

The Wonder

Netflix is releasing a fresh new historical drama film named The Wonder, starring actress Florence Pugh, and all indications are that it will be an explosive one. The Wonder will be released on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT. Viewers in the Central Time Zone may begin watching at 2 a.m.

The Wonder is set in the 1800s and follows Lib Wright (Florence Pugh), an English nurse, who is entrusted with investigating and reporting on Anna (Kla Lord Cassidy), a small child in rural Ireland who, according to her parents, had lived months without sustenance. However, Lib quickly discovers that there is more to Anna’s fasting than the town realizes.

The Wonder is based on the same-named book published in 2016.

The Wonder, a Scotiabank Giller Prize and Kerry Group Book of the Year finalist novel by Irish writer Emma Donoghue, will be adapted for Netflix. The novel’s summary is inspired by several instances of fasting girls (pre-adolescent girls who are said to have lived for a lengthy period of time without any food or sustenance) throughout the centuries:

“The Irish Midlands, 1859. An English nurse, Lib Wright, is brought to a little town to see what some are calling a medical abnormality or a miracle – a girl reported having lived for months without sustenance.”

It goes on:

“Tourists have gathered at Anna O’Donnell’s cabin, and a writer has gone down to cover the phenomenon. The Wonder is a story of two strangers who alter each other’s lives, a psychological thriller, and a love story battled against evil.”

Emma Donoghue is a novelist, literary historian, dramatist, and screenwriter whose work has been translated into more than 40 languages. At the 88th Academy Awards, her script for the adaptation of her Booker Prize-nominated book Room, starring Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, got her an Academy Award nod for Best Adapted Screenplay.

More about The Wonder’s supporting cast

The teaser for the forthcoming film sees Lib Wright being called to an Irish town and tasked by its councilmen with studying Anna. Lib quickly learns what the townspeople think about Anna while also wanting to get acquainted with their customs. Things start to become interesting as time goes on, and whether or not the latter is able to solve the riddle behind Anna’s fasting defines the remainder of the plot.
